Our commitments
Lactalis committed to a more sustainable food system.
The transition to more sustainable modes of agricultural and industrial production is essential to reducing our environmental impact, developing the potential of our employees and our communities, while ensuring the economic viability of the company.
Lactalis’ size and scope is a strength that enables us to identify, test and replicate the best solutions to the growing challenges of our time.
Our mission is to offer healthy, tasty products and accessible.
We are committed, with and for our entire ecosystem, to meeting the challenges that impact us throughout our entire value chain.
To this end, we have identified our four CSR priorities:
Fighting against climate change
Promoting responsible packaging
Ensuring animal welfare
Protecting biodiversity and forests
Ensuring CSR governance in close collaboration with the field
To ensure the robustness and relevance of our strategies, we have set up operational working groups. With our corporate technical experts, we build our vision, our policies and our lines of action, while proposing commitments and deadlines for each material topics.
Throughout this process, the proposals are discussed within an international network of CSR referents, made up of around 21 internal experts from a variety of technical skills.
At Lactalis, CSR is everyone’s business: ensuring our corporate mission is carried out responsibly.

CDP Climate Notation
Lactalis devised its CSR policy in line with the United Nations Global Compact and its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The dairy sector, of which the Lactalis Group is part, is particularly involved in ten of those objectives :
In helping to sustain over 150 million producers throughout the world, including in the most disadvantaged regions, the dairy sector contributes to the fight against poverty. It also generates employment, promotes decent work and reduces inequalities.
As milk is a widely available essential source of proteins, nutrients and energy, it is one factor in the eradication of hunger and malnutrition and the promotion of health and wellbeing.
Finally, due to its presence in all locations, animal feed agriculture and industry’s role in reducing greenhouse gases, the dairy sector is an important contributor to promoting responsible forms of production and consumption. It enables action against climate change, the protection of land ecosystems and thepromotion of biodiversity. The dairy sector also has an impact on the sustainable management of water and sanitation resources, with the spread of good practices based on science and proven results.
Our current production methods contribute to those impacts; therefore, we have a responsibility as well as a role to play. In 2020 and 2021, we consulted our stakeholders, identified our priorities, measured our impacts and made our commitments. Our top priorities are :
The leading global dairy group, Lactalis is at heart a French family business with roots in the rural and agricultural world.
It now has 85,500 employees around the world, men and women who bring their energy and expertise to dairy products day after day.
Lactalis has long been a fixture in dairy heartlands, driven by a long-term vision to continue dairy traditions. With our passion for milk, we strive to deliver its natural goodness in all its forms, providing simple, delicious products that everyone can enjoy. Cheese, fluid milk, yogurt, butter and cream, dairy ingredients and nutrition, we are present in all dairy product categories.

Although quality nutrition is essential for what we do, we also have a firm belief: healthy eating cannot be sustained over the long term without enjoyment and interaction. Not everything happens on the plate: pleasure is just as important as nutrition. We are convinced, supported by science, of dairy products’ central place in regular meals within a balanced and varied diet.
Our mission is to provide healthy, simple and delicious products that everyone can enjoy. Our commitment obviously focuses on the quality and safety of our products, but also on maintaining their diversity by protecting expertise, particularly PDO. We work tirelessly on our changing product portfolio, which combines local traditions and innovations, to meet ever more requirements. We endeavour to educate and inform consumers by bringing them clear, comprehensive and accurate information, and encourage responsible marketing practices.
SAFEGUARDING DAIRY AND CHEESEMAKING HERITAGE
Lactalis is the leading global player in PDO, with 38 designations around the world (France, Italy, Spain, Greece), including 28 in France. With our commitment to French and European PDO, the Group pledges to support, promote and create opportunities for these iconic products in their country of origin and internationally, including Normandy Camembert, Livarot, Roquefort, Gorgonzola, Parmigiano Reggiano, Feta and Queso Manchego.
The Group is also proud to develop, maintain and contribute to the transfer of dairy traditions and the diversity of local flavours. To give only a few examples: Lassi and Paneer de la mar que Prabhat in India; Ghee, Kefir and Labneh from Karoun Dairies, the Californian subsidiary manufacturing ethnic products; Kajmak and Ayran in Turkey, or Queijo Reino in Brazil.
